Following its bulletins of 5 May 2021 updating the New Industrial Strategy proposed in 2020, the European Commission has further indicated that it’s going to rely quite heavily on business to ship on the main challenges confronted by our economies and societies in Europe. This is particularly the case in relation to sustainability, digital transformation, and international competitiveness, in addition to the want to overcome the crisis provoked by the Covid-19 pandemic. The EU Recovery and Resilience Plan launched in Spring 2021 is basically building on the capability of European trade to design and produce the constructing blocks of the twin green and digital transition. At the same time, the EU is shaping a dense regulatory framework that doesn’t at all times assist the liberty and flexibility needed for companies to grow and compete globally.
The European technology industries, and particularly our pumps, compressors, taps and valves sectors, have for a really long time thought-about the enhancement of their international competitiveness throughout the challenges of societal and environmental challenges, notably by contributing to the preparation of power effectivity and ecolabel rules. In parallel, digitalisation has supplied increased alternatives and introduced new challenges, together with debates on the appropriate regulatory level (sharing of industrial information, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, etc).
These developments, amidst ever extra fierce worldwide competition, require that public authorities and business in the EU work more and more more intently to design and deploy methods that reinforce our competitiveness and our contribution to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This will be the topic of the preliminary debate kicking off our Joint EU Policy Conference, which is in a position to deliver together key coverage makers from the three EU policy institutions in management of the Industrial Strategy and three Executives representing and illustrating the achievements enjoyed, and challenges still confronted, by these three key sectors of business.
Specific Technical and Policy Issues
As the regulatory panorama throughout Europe, and indeed the entire world, becomes ever extra complex, the burden on business solely will increase. It therefore falls to sector specific commerce organisations, similar to Europump, CEIR and Pneurop, to establish and advise on these technical and coverage issues most relevant to their respective sectors. In our particular enviornment, that relates, of course, to the manufacture, distribution and use of pumps and all pump associated equipment – an enormous and essential subset of industry, given the width and breadth of pump functions.
Against this backdrop, one of the major concerns when figuring out the core themes for the joint conference was to take care of a direct reference to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs). Within this focus, the three associations intend to spotlight how, along with the importance for corporations to handle technical elements impacting their day by day business operations, they consider the optimistic position of trade in addressing societal challenges. Indeed, all the sessions will have a technical theme matching essentially the most acceptable UN SDG, and with illustration from the European Commission together with technical specialists from trade and/or research institutes, they may each be reflective of the present legislative terrain, because it relates to pumps and pumping systems in the following key areas:
Circular Economy & Eco-design (Relevant UN Sustainable Development Goal no. 12: Responsible Consumption and Production)
Industry’s Digital Transformation and Innovation (Relevant UN Sustainable Development Goal no. 9: Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure)
The restriction of use of supplies and substances of concern (Relevant UN Sustainable Development Goal no. 6: Clean Water and Sanitation)
The regulatory and legislative landscape throughout Europe is turning into increasingly advanced, and industry, in all its guises, needs to be aware and ready for what is coming. By engaging with these commerce organisations that symbolize your finest pursuits, you presumably can hold abreast of all the compliance developments as they affect your small business and the areas in which you use.
Europump’s 2022 Annual Meeting & Joint Conference will take place in Brussels on 9–11 May 2022 at the NH Collection Grand Sablon, Rue Bodenbroek – Bodenbroekstraat, 2, B-1000 Brussels, Belgium.
